SkinVision: Dutch App For Diagnosing Skin Cancer
A 62-year-old grandfather from Whangarei, New Zealand, heard about the smartphone app, SkinVision, on the radio that could help diagnose skin cancer. He downloaded it and used it to check a number of suspicious looking moles. All came back clear.
But towards the end of that year his wife encouraged him to scan a seemingly unremarkable growth which appeared on his forearm.
He took a photo of the lump using the SkinVision app – it came back as high risk and told him he should see his doctor. The app very likely saved his life.
How it works
Every single one of us has at least one mole that may change over time, sometimes without you even noticing. The SkinVision app assists you with determining whether it’s time for a trip to the doctors to get it properly checked out. Nothing complicated. You simply download the app onto your smartphone. When you open the app it firsts let you take a photograph of your mole. 30 seconds later it shows a ‘risk assessment’, telling you how risky the mole looks. It helps people see the possible signs of skin cancer on their mobiles.
Integrated dermatology service
The SkinVision app makes it possible to detect skin cancer at an early stage when it’s most treatable and has less expensive treatment options. As a result, the early detection of skin cancer allows you to save on medical costs occurring from future treatment.
This revolutionary Dutch innovation can be considered a potentially life-saving app on your phone.
